Exilis for the abdomen in London

The abdomen is the most studied area: two series with a combined radiofrequency and ultrasound device and two pig studies, and no sham-controlled Exilis trial. Usually four weekly sessions of about 30 minutes, as the published series ran them, with warmth that builds and is adjusted with you, and no downtime. What the studies measured

• 64 people, retrospective, a combined radiofrequency and ultrasound device (2021): the abdomen in 40 of them; the circumference was significantly lower a month after the fourth session, satisfaction 4.48 out of 5. The authors advise telling patients to expect "moderate degrees of improvement".
• 34 people, a combined radiofrequency and ultrasound device (2017): the abdomen in nine; blinded evaluators picked out the after photograph in over 90% of cases at three months.
• In pigs: collagen rose from 9.0% to 25.9% of the sample at three months, and fat-cell death was seen in a three-pig study; animal data linked to the maker, not a measurement in people.

What it does and does not do

Exilis reduces the measurement at the waist and firms the skin over it. It is not a weight-loss treatment and does not remove fat the way surgery does; the studies measured circumference, and we use the measured word. For a large bulge the doctor advises at the consultation whether fat freezing or EMsculpt NEO is the better route, and for loose skin after a large weight loss whether surgery is. The session and after

In our practice the skin is cleaned and a thin layer of gel or oil applied, a return pad is placed on your skin, and the handpiece is moved over the abdomen for about 30 minutes while the warmth builds. Pink, warm skin afterwards that settles over hours, and you go straight back to your day. Usually four weekly sessions, set at the consultation, then the review one to three months after the last, where we measure and photograph in our practice.

Who it suits

In our practice, an adult close to the shape they want with a stubborn area at the waist, who will keep their weight steady through the course. Not with a pacemaker or other internal electronic device, metal implants in the area, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or an active skin infection.
