The fold of crepey skin above the kneecap, the one that shows in a skirt or shorts, is on our own list of Exilis areas. In our practice it is treated with the small handpiece, both knees in one session and often with the inner thighs. No published series names the knees, and we say so; the thigh series measured circumference, and the mechanism is the same above the knee. Usually four weekly sessions, about 20 minutes each in our practice, with warmth that builds and is adjusted with you, and no downtime. Every treatment is given by Dr Marie Duggan, GMC 7488383, at Exilis London, 130 Harley Street, London, W1G 7JU, with the price in writing at a free consultation.
What it does on the knees
Exilis aims to firm the skin above the knee by warming the layer under it to the temperature at which collagen contracts and new collagen is laid down over the following weeks, so the fold tightens. It does not change the joint, and a pad of fat above the knee is a fat-reduction question, which the doctor advises on at the consultation; skin that has lost its elasticity entirely is more than a course tightens.
What the studies measured
The 64-person combined-device series measured the thighs in 18 people, with the circumference significantly lower a month after the fourth session; none measured the knees, and we say so. The thighs page sets out the nearest series.
The session and after
In our practice the skin is cleaned and a thin layer of gel applied, a return pad is placed on your skin, and the small handpiece is moved over the skin above and beside each kneecap while the warmth builds. Pink, warm skin afterwards that settles over hours, and you go straight back to your day. Usually four weekly sessions, then the review one to three months after the last, where we photograph in our practice.
Who it suits
In our practice, an adult with a crepey fold above the knees and skin that still has elasticity, who will keep their weight steady through the course. Not with a pacemaker or other internal electronic device, a knee replacement or metal in the knee, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or an active skin infection. The thighs page covers the area above, and the full guide the rest.
