The crow's feet at the outer corner and the thin, crepey skin below the eye are treated with the small Exilis handpiece. BTL's XP200 and XP300, monopolar devices of the same design, are FDA-cleared in the US for periorbital wrinkles and rhytids. BTL's own gallery shows the eye area, and the full-face series included it. Usually four weekly sessions, about 20 minutes each for the eye area in our practice, with warmth that builds and is adjusted with you, and no downtime. Every treatment is given by Dr Marie Duggan, GMC 7488383, at Exilis London, 130 Harley Street, London, W1G 7JU, with the price in writing at a free consultation.
What it does around the eyes
The radiofrequency warms the skin and the layer beneath to the temperature at which collagen contracts and new collagen is laid down over the following weeks, so the crow's feet soften and the skin below the eye firms. It does not lift a hooded lid or remove a bag of fat, and it does not treat dark circles; the doctor says so where another route is better. In our practice the handpiece stays on the orbital bone and is kept off the eye itself.
What the studies measured
The 34-person series with the combined device treated the face in ten people, with blinded evaluators picking out the after photograph in over 90% of cases at three months. A 30-patient face series scored the eye and cheek areas among its items. No series measures the eye area alone, and we say so. The face page sets out the face series in full.
The session and after
In our practice the skin is cleaned and a thin layer of gel applied, and a return pad is placed on your skin. The small handpiece is moved around the eye for about 20 minutes while the warmth builds, with your eyes closed. Pink, warm skin afterwards that settles over hours, and you go straight back to your day. Usually four weekly sessions, then the review one to three months after the last, where we photograph in our practice.
Who it suits
In our practice, an adult with early crow's feet or crepey skin below the eyes who wants a comfortable course with nothing through the skin. Not with a pacemaker or other internal electronic device, metal implants in the area, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or an active skin infection. The full guide covers the rest.
