A jawline that has started to blur and the first jowls either side of the chin are the lower face in BTL's own treatment tabs for Exilis. The handpiece warms the tissue along the jaw and over the jowl at a setting the doctor adjusts with you, and no published series names the jawline on its own, and we say so. Usually four weekly sessions of about 30 minutes for the face, with no downtime. Every treatment is given by Dr Marie Duggan, GMC 7488383, at Exilis London, 130 Harley Street, London, W1G 7JU, with the price in writing at a free consultation.
What it does on the jawline
The radiofrequency warms the skin and the layer beneath to the temperature at which collagen contracts and new collagen is laid down over the following weeks. The aim is that the line from the chin to the angle of the jaw firms and early jowls sit tighter. A heavy jowl of hanging skin is more than a course tightens, and the doctor says so and discusses Ultherapy at our sister clinic at the same address, or surgery, where either is the better route.
What the studies measured
The face series, a 30-patient study and the ten faces in the 34-person combined-device series, measured the face as a whole, with blinded evaluators picking out the after photograph in over 90% of cases at three months in the second. The face page sets them out in full, and the mechanism is the same along the jaw.
The session and after
In our practice the skin is cleaned and a thin layer of gel applied, a return pad is placed on your skin, and the handpiece is moved along the jaw and over the jowl while the warmth builds. Pink, warm skin afterwards that settles over hours, and you go straight back to your day. Usually four weekly sessions, then the review one to three months after the last, where we photograph in our practice.
Who it suits
In our practice, an adult with a softening jawline or early jowls and skin that still has elasticity, who wants a comfortable course with nothing through the skin. Not with a pacemaker or other internal electronic device, metal implants in the area, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or an active skin infection. The under the chin page covers the area beneath, and the full guide the rest.
